Benjamin “Benjie” Locsin Layug, a graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman, is a registered architect, a travel contributor for the Lifestyle and Travel Section of the Business Mirror (the Philippines’ No. 1 business daily), 7107 Islands Magazine and, online, for www.pep.ph; a travel consultant for United Tourist Promotions (makers of EZ Maps), developer of the travel website Biyahero: A Philippine Travel Portal (www.biyahero.net) and a copy editor for New Day Publishers and Great Books Publishing.
He is also the author of 5 travel books, namely “A Philippine Odyssey: A Collection of Featured Travel Articles” (New Day Publishers, 2005), “Pathfinders Travel Guide: Boracay” (Great Books Publishing, 2006), “A Tourist Guide to Notable Philippine Churches” (New Day Publishers, 2007), “A Tourist Guide to Notable Philippine Historical Landmarks, Monuments and Shrines” (New Day Publisher, 2010) and “A Tourist Guide to Notable Philippine Museums” (New Day Publishers, 2012);
Some of his books now appear in the local library shelves of the National Library of the Philippines, De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Sto. Tomas, U.P. Diliman, Centro Escolar University, San Sebastian College, Miriam College, Silliman University, to name a few, as well as internationally at the National Library of Australia and the University of California Berkeley Library. Here in Manila, it is also sold in select National Bookstore outlets.
In the past, he has also written articles for Travel Update, Philippine Daily Inquirer, TODAY (now Manila Standard TODAY), City of Angels (an Angeles City newspaper), Bluprint (an architectural magazine), COLORS, Cook Magazine and the defunct Business Day.
Benjie loves to travel when the opportunity presents itself and he has been to 54 of the Philippines’ 80 provinces as well as a number of Southeast Asian and East Asian countries.
